Built by homeschooling families, for homeschooling families
When my wife and I began homeschooling our six children, we fell in love with the flexibility of a parent-defined education. We curated curricula from multiple sources to fit each child, but that freedom came with a looming question: How do we actually finish it all on time?
The Struggle
With six children working through different subjects, we struggled to answer a basic question: How much work does each child need to finish this week to actually complete the year on time? The advice to "just do what you can," left us in a state of stress and uncertainty—wondering if the kids were falling behind. Without a clear finish line for the day or the week, we worried that our kids' education was being compromised and began to wonder if homeschooling was a mistake. The joy of learning was being replaced by the stress of the unknown.
The Spreadsheet That Changed Everything
As a software engineer, I looked for a way to solve the "uncertainty problem". So I built a spreadsheet.
I designed it to track each child’s progress and calculate exactly what was needed to finish the year on schedule. The "magic" was in the auto-adjustment. If a child got ahead, the workload eased up. If life got in the way and we fell behind, the system recalculated the remaining effort needed for each week so we could stay on track.
It worked perfectly—but spreadsheets aren't exactly "user-friendly" in the middle of a busy homeschool day.
Gamifying the School Day
With help from my brother, another homeschooling parent and software engineer, we transformed that logic into a streamlined web app. We didn't just want a tracker; we wanted to empower our kids. We turned their assignments into a point system, effectively gamifying their education.
Today, our children know exactly what they need to earn each day. They choose their subjects, track their own progress, and experience the satisfaction of knowing when they’ve done enough. The "Am I doing enough?" stress has vanished, replaced by kids who strategize their workload so they can hit their goals.
